Sunday sees possibly the Club’s biggest event of the season, President’s Day, in honour of our 2018 President, Jim Denyer.
This year we’re going back to our roots and going for a more traditional feel, so its all about celebrating the club, the cricket and the occasion.
Before we get into details, we know it’s going to be a jam-packed day, so here is a quick guide to what’s happening when so you can plan your day:
11am – Game starts
12pm – Bar opens for spectators
1pm – 1st Lunch sitting
2pm – Game reconvenes
2pm for 2.30pm – 2nd Lunch sitting
3pm – Treasure hunt starts
4.30pm – 5.30pm – Tea for players then club members
End of match – Presentations and raffle, treasure hunt ends
7.30pm til late – Band Forty45 play
Monday – recover
We’ve had everyone and their dog bashing the door in this week asking who’s in the teams, well, wait no more you cricket-mad bunch, because here they are:
CHERTSEY 1st XI

M. Main (Wk)
P. Boast (c) – CCC
R. Redmond (wk) – CCC
J. Oaks – VECC, Durban
E. Botha – WOTCC, Pretoria
B. Erasmus – DCC
A. Dillon – KCC
E. Miah – KCC
N. Wellman – VECC
C. Wakefield – CCC
We would ask that, if possible, if coming Sunday please leave the car at home as our car park is going to be tighter than a tin of Tesco Finest sardines.
There will be plenty of entertainment on the day for the family, with a kids play area running all day until it breaks with retro games (limbooooo!) and a treasure hunt for kids only(I’m watching you) running from 3pm til the end of the match with a sugary participation prize. We’re also having a raffle, where for £5 a ticket you have the chance to win a set of Dinner Dance tickets which will be held at The Runnymede Hotel on Friday October 5th, we’ve got a handful to give away. Tickets are to go on sale at the end of the month but they’re worth £50 a ticket so this is a sweeeeet prize on offer! (we’ll give you all the details re the DD another time). History dicates there is a shindig to conclude President’s Day and we haven’t disappointed. We cannot rave enough about the band we’re going to put on for you, Forty45, who many of you may know from regularly playing at the Crown. They’ll be on from 7.30pm playing rock/pop covers, something for everyone, so they’ll be sure to get you all bopping & popping to close the evening.
Now, let’s talk about our favourite things in the world, food & alcohol. You are welcome to bring a picnic and the lovely burger lady will be flipping & frying, we’ve been promised an ice cream van too. Can. not. wait. We’ve also been mooting on for the past few weeks about the Great British Presidents Day Bake Off and its not too late to enter, please just let us know at Comms Towers if you’re bringing a little something and we’ll make sure you’re entered, don’t forget entries need to be at the club for 3.30pm latest please in time for tea. We’ve been promised any cake left over after the players have made a dent will be offered up to club members so we’ll meet you by the VIP tent about half 5 with a ladle yeah?
We do have to get all serious for a moment though & ask that only alcohol purchased from the Bar (which will be open from 12pm) can be consumed on the premises, and normal Club membership rules apply (please check the blue signs by the bar if in any doubt): the day is open to members and their guests only. Right, now we’ve offloaded all that, back to normal.
