- Chertsey Cricket Club Youth Cricket Policy

We welcome any new enthusiastic young players to the Club. It is our intention, not only to help you become a good cricketer, but also to develop your skills in a friendly and fun place. We have no ambition to produce elitist cricketers. This means that all the children will be treated with dignity and respect, and teams will not always be selected or organised solely to win games. Chertsey Cricket Club recognises that running teams for young players carries a great responsibility. We want to take all reasonable steps to make the Club a safe environment and the game of cricket as enjoyable as possible.

- Our Aims & Objectives

The aims and objectives of the Juniors Section are:

  1.          To offer coaching and competitive opportunities in cricket
  2.          To promote the club within the local community
  3.          To encourage coaches to achieve relevant E.C.B. coaching qualifications
  4.          To ensure a duty of care to all members of the club and Juniors Section
  5.          To provide all its services in a way that is fair to everyone
  6.          To ensure that all present and future members receive fair and equal treatment.
  7.          To work towards the Club Mark accreditation

- How old do I have to be?

Chertsey Cricket Club plays in the West Surrey Youth Cricket League.  We currently have teams at the Under 9 (school year 4), under 10, under 11, under 12 and under (year 10) 15 age groups.  We also arrange friendly games with other Clubs.  Where possible, we try and organise cricket training for younger children, but this can not be guaranteed. Under 9 cricket is played with a soft ball.  From Under 10 onwards cricket is played with a hard ball.

- How do I join?

The easiest way is to come along to our training evening.  Get there early on (at least by 6.00 p.m. as our coaches will be very bust organising the training sessions.  Simply ask to speak to a coach, and we will do the rest.  Our training evenings start in late April and run to the end of July.  You can also phone our coaches or e-mail us through this website.

- Parents please note

The cricket club is not a crèche, the coaches are not child minders or taxi drivers. Each team manager will have their own methods for keeping tabs on their charges, but ultimately the responsibility remains with parents. Obviously we are particularly concerned about younger children who, as a general rule, should not be left at the club without parental attendance - for further guidance please speak with team managers.

Your child will be expected to attend training on time, train and play enthusiastically and to the best of their ability, and respect the coaches and other players.  In return we will coach your child and arrange for well organised cricket practice and games to the best of our ability.

Team Managers will be looking for volunteers for jobs like scoring, helping set out the pitch, getting players ready to go into bat (especially putting helmets on!), and other jobs.  You might even enjoy helping out!  If the Team Manager has work commitments (or goes on holiday – it is allowed!) then we will need you to help if we are to guarantee all matches.

We also very much want to encourage parents to become part of the club, not least anyone who would like to consider taking up an E.C.B. coaching course (which the club will pay for).
