Surrey Cricket Foundation have a big focus on the development of ladies and girls club cricket, and with England ladies boosting the scene further with their World Cup win, along with the introduction of the Kia Super League, never before has there been such a spotlight on the ladies side of the game.
Surrey’s initiative comes in the form of the ‘Smash It’ festivals, where ladies and girls of all ages and abilities can partake in a kwik-cricket style pairs soft-ball tournament. Chertsey Cricket Club’s ladies squad, the Bluebelles, have taken sides to two tournaments over the Summer with great success, at Pyrford and Godalming (with Sutton and Newdigate also hosting), and now it’s Chertsey’s turn to host the fifth and final festival of the season, on Sunday 3rd September.
The event is designed to give ladies of all abilities and ages an opportunity to learn or develop further their cricket skills with like-minded ladies in a club atmosphere. Participants can sign up either individually or as a club to make up teams.
The event at Chertsey starts at 1pm but sign-in is from 12.15pm onwards. There’ll be food available to buy from our lovely burger van, and the local Scouts group will be on hand to provide activities throughout the day.
But most importantly… the club will be providing all participants with a glass of Prosecco (18+ only!) and a cricket tea.
